Real Travel Deals for Real People

by kidcity on May 3, 2010

Stay at any Sheraton for $145?
Swim with the dolphins at SeaWorld for $175 (half off the usual $308)?
Fly to  & Stay in an Executive Suite at the Four Seasons for $2,000?

What’s the catch?

American Express (my favorite credit card company by far) has just launched a site riffing off the Groupon get-it-while-its hot travel deal concept. For the next 30 days, today through June 4th, 2010, DailyGetaways.com will be offering different daily deals with savings up to 50% off normal rates on things like hotels, plane tickets, theme parks and rental cars.

Every day, a deal will go live (I’m told around 10am or so) and be available until sold out, or until the next daily deal goes live. Today’s deal, a stay at Shearaton’s brands aloft, Sheraton and Four Points for $145, $60 and $100 respectively, sold out in 37 minutes.

After scrutinizing the site and talking directly to the reps from each involved organization, its clear these are real deals. There are the usual crappy blackout dates–when will the travel industry learn?—but aside from that, these do seem to be valid, unique deals you’d be hard pressed to find any other way.

TIP #1 You can look up to 5 days in advance at upcoming deals.
Tip #2
Sign up for email alerts to be the first to know when a deal will go live, giving you a better chance to snag it.

There is also an auction they are running. There are some cool packages, but with bidding starting at $3,500 no doubt they’ll be less popular than the real deals.
